Terrestrial Conservation Program

We support indigenous, Afro-descendant, and rural communities through voluntary conservation initiatives, forest restoration, and strengthening of the social fabric to assist them in their environmental governance and in caring for life.

The Darién Foundation’s terrestrial program builds upon over 40 years of experience working in the Colombian Darién and eastern Antioquia. This work includes the creation of Civil Society Nature Reserves and the recognition of other area-based conservation measures (ABMs).

We integrate biodiversity monitoring, ecological restoration, agroforestry, and community agreements for the protection and sustainable management of ecosystems. This program seeks to sustain ecological and social processes in the long term, in partnership with the communities that inhabit these areas.
